NUTELLERIA: the Sweetest Place on Earth

I was just working on my bucket list of places I want to travel.  Like any post with multiple destinations or lots of pictures, it takes more time than my standard posts. (researching the places, finding pictures, editing the pictures, etc)  Lo and behold I stumbled up on the mother of all of places for Nutella.  It’s called the Nutelleria.  And I had to bring it to your right away (before finishing my bucket list).

What is Nutella?

For those of you who are unfamiliar with Nutella, it is manna from heaven.  Legend has it that Prometheus was not punished for stealing fire from from the gods and giving it to us mere mortals.   He stole Nutella. It’s is a chocolate hazelnut spread…and I’m pretty sure they sprinkle some crack in there even though it’s not listed on the ingredients.  It is sinfully delicious.  Seriously, do yourself a favor and change into some sweatpants, go to the grocery store, buy a jar  and grab a spoon –  a soup spoon (there’s no sense in trying to eat dignified when it comes to Nutella).  I practically lived off of banana nutella crepes on my trip to Paris this year.

Where Can I OD on Nutella?

Well there’s a shop called the Nutelleria that makes all kinds of Nutella treats: crepes, pizza, and even cornflakes.  (I don’t know what kind of sorcery they’re using to get Nutella into cornflakes, but they should’ve been teaching that at Hogwarts.  ”Nutellae Insertus!!”).  They also have Nutella baguettes, croissants, donuts, waffles, ice cream, milk shakes and focaccia

In case you’re interested in going – perhaps on February 5th for World Nutella Day - here’s all the info:

I cycled 1700km from Holland to Bologna to visit the Nutelleria. I regret to inform to all of you Nutella addicts that since 1 januari 2012 the Nutelleria in Bologna is no more. By asking the staff of the new selfservice restaurant what happened to the Nutelleria they only could say that their boss decided to stop. ‘Finito’. So what should have been the highlight of my holiday, was a total deception. Luckily, there were lots of Gelateria’s in Italy where I could sooth the pain with Nutella ice creams :) .
